It all boils down to priorities. How urgently do you want a govt job versus immediate family needs. I have seen several people temporarily give up significant family sacrifices to get that "dream job". It all seems to work out for most if they are patient.
This is totally true. You wouldn't BELIEVE the hoops I'm jumping through for a job at the FSDO. But at the end of the day, set schedule, weekends/nights off, all holidays off, plus pension? Yes, please.
