Too late for you, sorry I didn't see this earlier. To anyone else in this situation in the future:

I had this exact situation in Feb/Mar: REG in Feb, trip ending the last day in Feb driving a 30/168 issue, RES in Mar. They tried to put me in rest effective the time of my release. I *was not* on RES at the end of my trip, I therefore did not check my schedule--earliest they could start my rest was midnight. It took a bit of round & round with crew scheds (with the backup of the MEC scheds), but a supervisor finally fixed it, started my 30 hour rest at the end of our phone call.

Of course, if you acknowledge the rest, you're on rest. Don't let them do it to you....
