Thats exactly what I did. I did almost all my training around my full time job and then started instructing on evenings and weekends. I didn't have much of a life but I built up as many hours as some full time instructors.....all the while paying on loans, building up my savings account and paying off other debt so I will be a little more comfortable financially once I take the F/O plunge.
