If Tom Hanks is doing it, enough said...
I see a lot of low time, regional guys, who feel they can do it better, or don't see what Sully did that was so special. It wasn't this one incident that makes him a good pilot. On any given day many of us, regional or Legacy, glide this thing on...or maybe not?
It's the day in and day out professionalism that he, and many like him exhibit. Any low time yahoo can grease a few landings on now and again. That's not what makes a good pilot IMO. It's the "been there, know what happens next" that experience brings.
After 16 years in the airline industry, the last 4 at a Legacy, I learn something nearly every flight. Little tips here, or flight plan gotchas there. We take this information and tailor it to our needs. A professional knows he/she can always learn. A low time rookie who thinks greasing on an RJ makes him superior, or thinks they know everything is what gives the new generation a bad rap.
