You're thinking like a pilot. You need to think like managment. Maybe they don't currently overstaff, but if they determine the new pay raises and and premium pay costs them more than having a couple more pilots in your base, they could easily choose to do that. That would also solve a lot of the cancellation problems they've had in the past.
