Not entirely true, they are pretty tolerant of honest mistakes. Otherwise pilots get nervous, and nervous pilots are paranoid pilots, who tend to pay very careful attention to every regulatory detail, esp. airworthiness. Not good for controllable canx.
they don't need to be paranoid to do this, this is what the far's require you to do for every flight. its the companies responsibility to minimize controllable cancellations, NOT the pilot.
