I agree, I doubt the CEO would announce he is going to meet with the union just to announce a LAX base. However, with the opening of recent bases, was the union consulted in any way? Maybe, consulting with the union in the idea of closing one base and opening another?
Also, my understanding is for the size of airline we are and will be in the near future, aren't we a little heavy on the number of bases we have in the system? If you look at the other airlines, not counting the big legacies, I think this may be the case. Thoughts?
I think more of a driving force would be the scheduling of flights. I'm no expert but having pilots in base I would think would allow more flexibility and utilization of available gates. I would honestly watch FA hiring to predict which base will open since FAs are still hired to a particular base. Atleast that's my understanding.
