I refer back to my earlier post. Why not implement a system whereby we can get "xxx" amount of hours of non-verified sick time for the sniffles, $hit$ and strains (80-100 hours per year as an example) which resets on your hire date AND a short term disability plan that pays 100% of lost wages (ALV/Reserve Guarantee) for the period you are out?
Rather than having 240-300 hours of non-bankable sick time with stupid verification rules, you get, let's say 100 hours per year and, if you have the need for something more serious/ longer stretch, you invoke ST disability at 100% of your wages (rather than the current 50%). ST disability, by its nature, will require verification...as it should. (And, for the record, long-term disability also needs to be worked on).
