In theory you're right. The problem with that is that a cancellation hurts a lot more than paying a pilot 100hrs for 40 block and the avl list is used to cover things on short notice that would otherwise have no coverage and get cancelled. If they started cancelling a ton of flights because no one chooses to fly on short notice then we would have real leverage. Paying a few guys what they should be paying all 1400 of us is hardly a penalty to them.
Agreed! 100%! Really, I do. But that's not the case. There is ALWAYS somebody willing to do it. It's not going to get us a contract any time soon. It's just not. If most of the pilot group was on board (which they are not), then it would make a huge difference. Sad to say, but the only thing that will help get a contract sooner is a strike. It's been done before, not the most desirable outcome of course.
The point was to the person who said that the people on the AVL list doesn't enjoy their days off. They do enjoy their days off. They get a lot of time off. It's just not their scheduled days off. If that works for them, good for them.
