Believe the waiting time to qualify for LTD is a year (so employed here for a year), but still will pay out 90 days after your disability. Our LTD plan is junk, plan and simple. It should be looked at like Social Security benefits; if its there for some extra cash, great, but no way am I going to depend on it for any financial planning.
I have supplemental LTD because I am not going to gamble my financial future on this crap Spirit policy. Guys should be looking at supplemental short term plans if it really is a 365 wait period. Can't imagine many of our pilots have 365 days of "rainy day" funds saved in sick time and in the bank.
Buy supplemental insurance guys, dont risk it. We should be looking at a much better policy with the new contract, when/if, we get it. Until then, protect yourselves and your family.
