Military leave is for exactly that. Duty is performed on those days. If it happens to be 4th of July, then its apropos. I have absolutely no problem with anyone on military duty and I don't personally know anyone else that would tell me this in person.

UAL used to be great to the military guys, no questions asked, just bring in a copy of orders. This latest crop of managers, meaning since Jeffy, seem to take it personally that someone would have the temerity to defend our country on company time.

The military guys have it hard enough, they have laws that protect their ability to perform their duty--because of crappy do nothing know nothing never been in the military managers like we have now, that is part of the system. If you don't like it, and it causes you to not get the 4th off, then bid to another equipment and be more senior. Same argument as "I'll never be on reserve."

Suck it up.
Get off your cross. I've never worked a single holiday stateside active duty or reserve. Deployed, obviously. Unless you're in a Noble Eagle or UAS or similar unit, I've yet to find the reserve/guard squadron thats running a drill weekend on the 4th/cmas/tgiving.

Obviously there are 24/7 world wide Ops, and if you're legitimately engaged then you have nothing to worry about. There are jerkoffs that abuse it though and it's why we're having this conversation.
