A couple years ago I was doing an evening approach into MRY with the setting sun. It was real hazy and the tower asked if we had the airport. I started to say no, but the FO said he had it. I looked over and asked how the hell he could see the airport, to which he replied "Polarization Dude!". He handed me the sunglasses and I was surprised at the difference it made. I still didn't like them for normal ops but always kept a pair handy for hazy approaches into the sun.
