FedEx didn't do those things out of the goodness of their hearts. They are bound by a hard fought CBA that spells out medical benefits, which is what ultimately you benefited from. Corporations are just that, they don't owe anything unless it's spelled out in the employment contract. The loyalty speech is also what grinds the gear of some out there, and is why there are sayings like "Majors love military pilots, they won't strike."

As for your friend, it sounds like upgrade-chasing. Good luck with that game. Something I've noticed in my short 10 years in the industry, some people will just never be happy. Those kinds of rants one expects from the regional level. But when a 5 yr SWA guy is doing it, you just have to roll your eyes and wish them best of luck with their future decision.
