I'm in a similar situation. I work in management at my job 40+ hours a week, just started on an aviation degree, found a great part 61 school that works with my schedule (and has SkyWest begging for CFIs to come over when they can, if I might add), and I have a family of 3. I'm on track to have my CFI done in about 1.5 years total.

I'm doing BS Aviation Science degree and have found that it only helps with my training and understanding of the industry. I don't see why anyone would say that it is a useless degree.
