Regardless of use, supporting AOPA supports general aviation (which is not always the same as private aviation, sometimes there is a stark difference between the two ie biz jets vs 172's).

Also, there are occasions when ALPA and AOPA are in disagreement with each other. The latest being 3rd class medical reform, ALPA opposed it completely without bothering to take the temperature of the group.

The protective services get you a free one call consultation with a lawyer.

If you do want to support "private aviation" ie 172s etc.., your money would be better spent donating to EAA in my opinion.
