To the poster saying it's illegal, it's not. They gave him 10 hours of rest after calling him. What every one else is saying, when you are in a rest period, never answer your phone.

Also, you should NEVER EVER volunteer to notify your crew. That isn't your job. If you do run into your captain, he isn't obligated to accept your notification because you aren't scheduling. Just call them back and tell them you couldn't get ahold of him.
