btw - this website says ASA's most junior captain was hired june 04 in the RJ, and Nov 04 in the T-prop. Theyre upgrading captains just as fast as SKW is every month. So whats the worry?
READ THIS POST OVER AND OVER SKYWEST PILOTS!!!!!
Even if JA merged us someday, this is the probable time line:
Dec 07 let's merge...
it will takes months to get stockholder/board approval
it will take several more months to get the two labor groups together to start talking about a deal.
it will takes several more months to finalize a deal and then an additional month or two for Road Shows where your representitive will explain how it is going to work.
it will take another month or two for a vote.
Historically, when mergers happen they install "fences" and keep the two groups seperate for a period of time, usually 18 to 24 months. So let's do some math
3+3+3+1+1+18= 29 Months or
2 1/2 YEARS!!!!!
The guy that this would effect hasn't even gotten his Private pilot license yet! So relax. It's not going to effect any current pilots upgrade.
Now, if you say that you want to prevent someone from getting your Santa Barbara base. O.K. I get that. But remember, it doesn't matter how much seniority you have, you can't bid a base, if there are no vacancies. So if you are where you want to be, no one is going to bump you out.
Some of you talk about the dues, well its true. you pay dues, but you can deduct them from your taxes and they go for more than just a war chest for strikes. ALPA has helped increase safety through their committees, they have help to influence senators on matter that are pertanent to pilots, again, something we ALL benefit from.
As for the seniority thing........ ASA pilots do not have greater seniority!!! Depending on where you are in your list you might go up or down. The number 1 guy at ASA would not be the number 1 guy if they merged.
I looked it up for me, and I would remain in about the same percentage,i.e. NO CHANGE
So please......RELAX......... don't let fear of an upgrade make up your mind about ALPA.
Stick
P.S. just so you don't think I'm trying to weasle your upgrade away from you, I'm a 700 Captain in my 11th year. My life won't change a bit, but I do believe that it is what is best for the regional industry as a whole.
