Sorry, I've got to weigh in on this thread. I've commuted for 20 years, and wouldn't change a thing. Some things I'd consider:
1. Commuting might cost you some money in the long run; however, I've done better than most in my newhire class who moved to ATL/CVG/SLC to avoid commuting. Not being tied to driving to work and living where I have one-leg access to multiple bases has allowed me to go to bigger equipment faster with better seniority.
2. Staying in the top 50% of your category will generally get you commutable trips. With the retirements/hiring we're doing, you'll never be junior, except by choice.
3. I have the luxury of enjoying activities with my family on my days off that most pilots have to go on vacation to enjoy.
Commuting's not for everyone. The stress has driven several of my friends to moving to a base. You'll definitely miss some easy greenslips, and won't be able to roll thunder. However, if you have family in Denver and things you enjoy doing more than once or twice a year, I'd say go for it.
