America West didn't "buy" USAirways...... They didn't have two dimes to rub together. AW had one foot through the chapter 11 door when the "Merger" occurred. City bank financed the deal and arranged for the LCA stock issuance of the new "combined" company. It was a good deal for City Bank as well as both airlines.... They got to survive.

It's sorta like sayin someone bought a car or a house when they got a loan with "no money down"!
