Long and short of it is that when it came time for the brief I asked him to go over the approach while I kept flying. His Surface was frozen like frosty and so he took over the flying at that point while I briefed it. We ended up leaving it like that and he did the approach and landing.

My ASAP included that detail: Surface froze up necessitating the transfer of controls. Some how that little nugget didn't make it into the hangar flying narrative that went out to the masses and was nicely glossed over with no reason given for the why the transfer of control was made.
