This is very strange. I don't understand what interest CBP has if you're not clearing customs. Even if there is a company policy regarding wearing IDs out of uniform, there is no law against wearing it. I don't know why anyone would attempt to take it from you. Some companies have crew rooms in sterile areas in airports that employees may access out of uniform. ID is required to be displayed at all times. How would you display your ID out of uniform while entering the crew room without doing so while in the terminal? Nothing sounds right about this. There are so many reasons to display an ID in an airport out of uniform. And how does CBP know you don't work in the CPO? Are they required to hide their IDs on the way to getting lunch, only to secretly show it to get a discount, and then quickly hide it so as not to have it confiscated by border patrol?
