UPS was the first to purchase the 757 pf. This was before UPS became an airline. Ryan was the first to fly the 757 on behalf of UPS. Ryan did not own the aircraft. UPS did.
Looks like that is the most correct answer. Boeing shows the 757pf going into service on 09/28/87 with UPS...but UPS didn't get it's own air carrier certificate until the next year.
