500-300= 200/12 = 18 per month on average leaving. Seems high.
I think outside attrition will stay pretty high.. this year around 5 CA's a month on average have left to other Majors. Most are waiting for the flow, but many (myself included) don't particularly want anything to do with AA and their management style for another 30 years if it's possible to go somewhere better first. Or for some people the domiciles work better with other airlines so those guys will still try to go elsewhere. DAL/UAL are hiring a lot. SWA contract is much better now. Hiring will be increasing in 2017 even more across the board.
With FO's I think many will continue going to LCC's to get away from these horrid schedules and bad QOL here instead of waiting around for the flow. FO's are regularly getting hired at UAL/DAL as well every month. Not a lot of them but a few. Then some others are just quitting the industry all together because it sucks for family life and all the other BS associated. 10-20/mo attrition outside the flow is very likely, if not a low estimate in the 2017 hiring environment. In my opinion.
I agree there won't be mass losses like the last couple years of shrinkage and beatings, but plenty of people are still leaving for upward moves. AA is probably the least desirable Legacy to work for (other than domicile choices) that work for many of us. They have the worst contract and work rules by far currently. Hourly Pay "rate" at AA is decent but the contract, QOL and soft money compared to what the the other big 2 carriers get is not good at all. Days off, QOL, actual W2 pay and management treatment are much worse than at DAL/UAL. The trend of AA turning into a giant low cost carrier with no more regard for QOL is also scary. I don't hear of guys at Delta with 11 and 12 day off trash schedules. AA has more and more of them lately. Don't get me wrong, it is obviously still way better than Envoy and I will definitely go, and look forward to getting out of here and going next year, but it isn't my top choice, that is for sure. It's plan B if all else fails.
