Devils advocate.......
Picket the job fair and lets say 300 applicants show up. They see the signs and the picketing...25 of the applicants say "You know what, im better than $38 an hour and im not going to waste my time at Spirit...think im going home."
So now 275 are left. The 275 are the ones too stupid/stubborn/naive/etc to see the message and they go to meet with the recruiters. Spirit still has to hire 40 pilots this month so 40 offers go out to some of the 275 who made it to the job fair, 40 out of the 275 who were too stupid/stubborn/naive/etc...they soon become pilots on our seniority list and we wonder why they are willing to settle on this crap TA we get in 3 years..."Why are these guys voting 'yes' on these low wages? Dont they know they are better than these wages?"
So I ask, is the best strategy to dissuade them all, the smart ones leaves, and the "less intelligent" ones get hired? Is doing this the best long term goals for our pilot group? Because lets face it, people are still going to these job fairs, and there will be those attending who believe $38 an hour and an Airbus type is far better than their RJ FO job, and Spirit will hire those. Hell, we have college kids who are willing to accept 2 years of servitude in order to fly one of these planes at $38 an hour.
