I don't think many were intimidated. The chief pilot sent a "intimidating" email to my CC when I was deployed to a remote location starting in mid December years ago. My CC was a furloughed AA pilot, and he sent back an email that probably fried the chief pilots computer.
For every guy that is doing true service there are others that aren't. Believe it or not just because someone was in the military doesn't mean they are the paragon of virtue. I want the company to keep everyone honest.....even the Mil leave guys. As long as calling isn't against the law I don't have a problem with the CP verifying that someone is where they said they were going to be.
I've had more than one fellow UA pilot brag about their abuse of mil leave over holidays and other manipulations. Maybe it was just cockpit bravado but some guys enjoy telling the world how they have lied about mil leave to be off.
