I've had more than one fellow UA pilot brag about their abuse of mil leave over holidays and other manipulations. Maybe it was just cockpit bravado but some guys enjoy telling the world how they have lied about mil leave to be off.
I suspect there is some "cockpit bravado" and some truth but I agree the company should do random checks as to the legitimacy of mil leave drops. The are big advantages to retiring from the military and there is some downside as well, namely deploying to an active combat zone and possibly becoming injured or killed. But for the rest of us who have to fill in the gaps we would prefer that those mil leave drops are legit. I'd like to remind the Mil pilots that serving in the reserves should only inconvenience you and your family not impact the personal lives of the rest of the pilot group.
