"The FAA believes that this proposed rule would mitigate incidents of unprofessional pilot behavior which would reduce pilot errors that can lead to a catastrophic event."
We have a new hire jumpseat observation program at AWAC. Guess what? New hires go out and see non standard guys/gals flying the line. I am NOT talking safety of flight issues. However, we have a lot of little 'dumb' things in the book that are acceptable at other airlines. Like we are supposed to transfer flight controls for the approach brief every landing, not touch the flight control panel when hand flying (i.e. can't spin your own airspeeds/headings when hand flying), can't turn ON your own autopilot, can't clear your own f/d, pilot flying never touches the altitude preselect, etc.) Talk about a bad primacy of learning when a new hire see's a non standard crew doing all of that. There is nothing unsafe about spinning 250kts when hand flying, but if you are not supposed to do that on your own and a new hire sees this, it defeats the whole professionalism intent of this rule.
This would only work if they are observing a flight deck with an LCA or a specially selected crew.
Trump won't pass this
