If I live in Sacramento,CA what is the best airframe and base to choose for QOL purposes (assuming I don't move to base) ?
Drive to FAT or SFO or Commute to LAX?
Is there more money to be made for motivated FOs on the ERJ or CRJ come 2017?
I used to be based in SFO and the majority of the captains I flew with drove from Sacramento. Most people would try to bid trips that didn't make them cross the bay bridge during rush hour, but other than that most said they liked it better than commuting to LAX or FAT.
There's more money to be made on the CRJ because the plane is more junior so you hold a line quicker, and it's more understaffed so there's more open time to pick up. The E175 has less crews so there is less open time, and it's more senior so you sit reserve longer and are less able to fill up your schedule.
SFO is one of the bases where E175 pilots get Delta benefits so there is no difference in flight benefits between the CRJ and E175 for SFO based crews.
