Adding the 3000 to the "protected" list is a positive. However I don't like there being a cutoff. That in a way is a B scale. Not on pay but on job protections. I'd like to see the PWA change to protect every pilot when hired, or at the very least at the completion of probation. That could get messy though as some JR pilots complete probation sooner than SR pilots, but there are ways around that, like anyone senior to anyone who is off probation also qualifies, etc.
The furlough protection doesn't mean the company can't furlough. It just makes it harder for them to do so without a dire need. There is no reason to segregate the seniority list by drawing lines at contract time. Having separate pilot sub groups that get different contractual job protections is as unfair as having separate pilots who get dramatically superior sick and family leave based on domicile despite the intended uniformity of a CBA in the first place.
It seems every PWA only covers pilots on list at DOS. Never understood that. Guess that is your gift for being on property when a new PWA is signed.
