How does any of the above make it such a grievous request by the Company? Maybe because people feel it offends their principle based actions of calling in sick, only when they're sick? Too bad everyone is offended by everyone else's offensiveness these days.

The hassle factor curbs behavior. This is about pushing not stopping abuse. Where do you go to verify a previous cold? I never go to the doctor for that.
