To the poster who asked the question about your wedding next summer do not buy into this. Yes you will be bottom line holder at best most likely reserve, but you can bid as much around your wedding and from there the CP office will absolutely work with you on this one. You WILL have off through the use of bidding, trading, PO, PVD, or all the above. If you can't trade or bid around it call the CP office with plenty of advance and they WILL work with you.
You say I give bad anvice when you tell a pilot he will likely be a line holder by next July when he is not even on property yet and could end up as bottom OFE on a shrinking status or DFL that the company plans to run very thing thus training junior CA on the right seat. If junior line holder he will likely be working weekends and less days off thus extremely hard to trade days around, PVD as one of the most junior pilots in status in the middle of summer is going to be hard to get. Weddings normally happen during the weekends and that will be the hardest days to get off as a junior line holder or middle of the pack reserve. Right now the top of the reserve list are occupied by pilots who, have been around for years. Look at DFL as an example, for October the top 5 had upgrade class dates or are bypassing upgrade and thus pilots are taking up the weekend off lines and the ones with the max amount of days in a row, you will find similar results across the entire system. Please, don't tell a new hire that he will get the time off when trading away from weekends or even shifting days for a junior line holder working 4 on 2 off on most instances isn't likely to happen, when PVDs during summer time are extremely hard to get specially for a junior pilot, when even if a new hire could hold a line but bids reserve isn't likely to hold their top choice or even second. Don't set him and his wife to be for disappointments and headaches. We don't even know who the CP Ian going to be in ORD next July but we do know that staffing is likely to be tight and currently is very hard to get those things you advertise.
