Hats a ridiculous, outdated accoutrement from a by gone era when Pilots were actually respected and had nifty things like pensions.

Hats are not the issue. They are just an example I used of the mentality...beg, borrow and bow for a job....put on the "I' ll do anything you want, I just want to work here" show...and then once hired, its too much to ask to simply do your job (which just might include wearing a hat).
I don't see how you guys can't get past the hat issue (who cares about the damn hat?!) and stick with the point.
