Commute wasn't too bad. I always took the early morning, nonstop flight on Delta from SLC to DTW the day before my reserve block started. I had a clean and quiet crashpad about 10 minutes from DTW airport for about $200 a month, two crashpad cars included. I would chill out there, fly if called in, then catch the 17:30 Delta flight (I was released at 1600) back to SLC on my last reserve day. I had to ride jumpseat a few times since that afternoon flight was almost always full. It's a manageable commute if you're willing to do it for a little bit. Good news is, at the rate things are changing, you won't get stuck with it for years like some of the other unfortunate guys at other regionals. I only did it for two months, then got SLC based.
