I'm just finishing up IOE...I was given DTW....I was looking for some advice. I decided wherever I'm based I'm going to live instead of commute. I was thinking of putting in for a transfer to ORD. My end goal is Denver but I'm thinking that won't happen till at least February. So:
1) If I stay with DTW, does anyone know of crews living in Ann Arbor instead of Detroit or if there is a crash pad there? (Ann Arbor is about the same distance from airport as Detroit)
2) Should I choose ORD over DTW? Everyone says the flying is better in ORD, as someone who hasn't been on the line, what does that mean (better overnights, longer layovers etc)?

The Detroit area is a big place. Ann Arbor is doable too. It certainly is a lot cheaper than Chicago. But the trips are pretty much only -200 flying to Midwest towns with lots of back and forth. You really won't leave the Midwest. This could change as DTW gets more 700/900 trips.
If you like the city life than go with Chicago. Lots of variety of trips on the 200, 700, or 900 for 3 different carriers. You actually might get a chance to land on the west coast. I like this so I stick with ORD, even though my seniority is significantly lower in ORD than DTW or MSP. But I'm a Captain too.
