Most airlines dumped the 747 because of costs. It doesn't make money like something like a 777 does. The same thing happend to the DC-10/MD-11's. CAL dumped them prior to 9/11, many others dumped some or all of thiers after 9/11. I never got to fly one, but I've flown with many guys who did and loved it. I'm looking forward to flying the 777, 787, and I'm sure they'll have a 797 before I retire. Too bad I'm going back to the 737.
