Even if there is a market correction and the economy slows down, hiring will not come to a complete halt. With no added growth, the majors will each have to hire 400-500 a year just to account for retirements/medical outs. The majors are also scoped out on large RJs, so they risk a significant loss of market share if they were to downsize.
Additionally with all the bonuses and pay increases the regionals are introducing, there will come a point where it is no longer cost effective to continually outsource their flying since the days of extremely cheap RJ labor is quickly becoming a thing of the past.
