I'd give two reasons:
1) ATP written is good for just two years -- then you have to take it again. ATP--w/type or w/o--is good forever.

2) Look who you are going to be competing against for a job. You don't want to give an airline a reason to pass on giving you an interview. Having an ATP takes one reason away.
