I don't think anyone said the definition is hazy at all. Are you flying a route on behalf of ABX? Are you a subsidiary flying an unscheduled route? If the answer of either of those is no, then you are not flying struck work. That's pretty simple. If you work for a pax airline and you see a DHL sticker on the airplane, AA or DAL is not doing DHL a favor. They are receiving a premium to carry those boxes and ABC is losing revenue.
