If someone senior wants the bus in AVL, and all the slots are filled by the time the current AVL MD80 guys' bids are reached (done in seniority order), then yes, they will be displaced, but they are not automatically displaced.
It basically means that if no one else senior wants to go there and fly the bus, the current MD80 guys will get to stay in AVL. That being said, I have heard several senior people say they are thinking about bidding AVL when it goes to the bus.
This is correct but to add, the equipment lock won't be lifted unless it is lifted company wide which is extremely unlikely. All of the AVL FO's and some CA's are on lock and can't bid Airbus so they will get flushed even if nobody senior bids. However, what's most likely to happen is a side agreement for base conversions to allow everyone to stay and break locks only for the base converting to airbus (non growth situation).
