If someone senior wants the bus in AVL, and all the slots are filled by the time the current AVL MD80 guys' bids are reached (done in seniority order), then yes, they will be displaced, but they are not automatically displaced.
It basically means that if no one else senior wants to go there and fly the bus, the current MD80 guys will get to stay in AVL. That being said, I have heard several senior people say they are thinking about bidding AVL when it goes to the bus.
I think we are arguing semantics here. My point was simply to illustrate that under the new system, there is no guarantee of base protection like the old system when the base changed aircraft. And let's not forget the equipment lock which can be problematic.
