For a displaced pilot yes of course. But the equipment lock doesn't help current MD80 pilots in base when that base introduces Airbus vacancies.
This entire change over of the MD80 to the Airbus cannot be looked at as a single event. It's two separate events, a vacancy as well as an overstaffed position. One event follows vacancy rules, the other follows displacement rules.
