-Rick Ziebart, an ABX pilot and the spokesman for the Airline Professionals Association, Teamsters Local 1224, which represents the pilots, said ABX has a crippling staff shortage that results in demands for “emergency flights” to meet its obligations. “ABX Air’s failure to address the staffing crisis hurts our families and compromises our ability to do our jobs and meet the needs of Amazon, DHL and other customers,” he told the New York Times.
We had a staffing formula -sort of- pre 2010 when they got rid of it. The company was required to maintain 10% average reserve coverage over a rolling 12 month period. As for emergency flying, easy enough, dont pick up the phone. Also I think that is the real reason for the 2/mo 5/yr ja max. Unfortunately in 2010 we accepted a 95 hour max line. Hard to get to 95 hrs with 18 hr 4-days but who knows, it may be easier to build more efficient pairings than hire.
