AMR will give you a class date without the interview in the same timeframe. There is no reason for a new hire to come here unless he REALLY wants Delta or NYC for whatever reason.
Well, I came in with several hundred hours 121 time, and given current trends, upgrade looks less than 6 months out. Then two years in the left seat, interview, class date, mainline. Even if it takes me an extra six months, I'm confident in my abilities and not afraid of another interview. Even if it's FOUR years, that still beats anything AAWOs can offer presently. Granted, we can all agree that the crystal ball is a little murky.
Delta is where I want to be, and NYC is okay with me. To each their own.
