I believe that was prior to LOA 93 which also contained the low pay rates that L-AA likes to crow about.
Reserve for L-US is now worse than it used to be.
One can still pass. I passed a couple of days ago. If a trip comes open, and two or more guys in a short call group are available and legal, they'll call the senior guy (that was me in that case) and ask if I want to fly or pass to the junior guy. As stated, I passed.
