What is this term "proffer" is exactly? I get that it's picking up flights, but is that something that you'd be doing while on reserve or in between RAPs?

Proffering at envoy: between 10am and 2pm the day before a reserve day, you can check the open time for the next day and put in your "proffer," or the list of which assignments (flight sequences of varying lengths, airport standby assignments- 8 hour shifts, or your preference of RAP- 2 hour call out) you'd like. Usually the trips are assigned in seniority order by 5pm to whoever proffered. Scheduling also typically hands out a "default" RAP beginning at 4am for all reserve pilots on their first day. If your seniority couldn't hold what you proffered for, you default to RAP 1. You will have the ability to see all open time as well as a list of reserves to see where you stand each day. Some limited scheming is available.
The last wrinkle in this is Scheduling's treatment of our contract. You are expected to follow every rule, but they are not. Best of luck.
