If you're thinking of bidding it Albie, there were a couple of guys who had a winter condo in Verbier, and their life there was all about skiing the Alps. Phenomenal.
At some point it may be an option. With a wife well into Cantonese lessons and a daughter who is doing extremely well in a great school, I think I am anchored a while. I enjoy a lot about HK, except the lack of skiing. Yeah....New Zealand, Japan, etc...I know I know--but it takes a lot of logistics. Loading up the SUV and driving down four to six hours away on days off has a tremendous appeal. Until then--its jetting back to the states with an Epic pass and making it happen around the Rockies.

I get the kids thing. We had two under 5 when we lived in Germany 96-98, and that keeps your radius small for trips as things can go south quickly.

One more FDA input--FDA can be a plus, but if your spouse does have to give up a job the gain can be washed out. In our case wife had stepped back from her career, so a non-factor for us. If any spouse is interested in working in Hong Kong, watching folks leave work at 7-8 PM every night to the ferries and MTRs might soften some of that enthusiasm.
