Mainly because the 4 concourses around the central hud can be confusing to someone who doesn't use the airport frequently. When you have a bank of flights arrive the central hub gets pretty chaotic.
DTW seems more streamlined and passenger friendly.
Think about an older person trying to connect from Southwest to an RJ flight. If they timed it right and the G connection was closed, they would need to take 3 train rides, walk a half mile and consume 45 minutes.
In the summer they let the temp get up to 80 degrees in the terminal.
Imagine a 10 hour power outage because the airport operator never put a load on the backup generator. All the toilets and urinals require power to flush. People were using the sinks out of necessity.
KCM has moved so many times I lost count.
Yes the airport has some nice shopping and food options. In virtually all other respects KMSP is a great case study for failed civil engineering and mismanagement.
