ECIC did discuss the issue of canned answers. One thing to remember is that it's a competitive pool so you have to focus on more than just passing the interview; you want to perform extremely well.
One thing I wouldn't do is waste time renting a heavy sim. Fly raw data when you can, get a little time in your local instrument trainer (Frasca), or whatever you need to tune up your scan. I heard that someone did prep on a PC flight sim w/ yoke so you can get creative in this area.
