I thought we were talking about airlines here?

And seniority only helps you when you're already hired. Let's consider how many female pilots working for regionals during the Lost Decade took a time out from their career (possibly missing out on upgrade) to start the family they had been putting off for years. That's a huge career handicap men don't even have to think about.
