I live in NY (born and raised here). I bid reserve by choice, so I can (theoretically but never a guarantee) fly less and be home with my family more. The times when I do bid a line, I can hold nearly all day turns.
Should I start bidding a line with 5-day trips so I'm not seen as "scamming" my fellow pilots?
I don't see it as a scam. It's optimizing the situation. Living in DFW, if I worked for LUV you can bet I'd be bidding reserve for the same reasons. Probably a bit less traffic in DFW than JFK though
